The Story of my 47th tooth
Posted by peanut on Friday Apr 17, 2009 Under bad stuffsFirst of all, let me introduce you all to this fella, if you don’t know why it is 47th tooth, let me explain. Human only got 32 teeth, how come I’m suffering on my 47th?
Think this way. All tooth are named with 2 numbers. First number is the quadrant number, the second number is the position. Your right upper quadrant (from the mid-line onwards and towards your right molar back there) is named ‘1′. Upper left as ‘2′, lower left is ‘3′ and and lower right is ‘4′. So the 47th tooth is at the lower right quadrant, 7th tooth from the mid-line. Got it?
Easier to say, it is my right lower jaw 2nd Molar. But got number, call number more gempak/ yeng/ bergaya.
This tooth was long being filled up by some metallic black almagam filling. Last month, it was giving me some problem, pain while eating, cold and hot and during pressure. There is this big caries there (because there is a big gap between it and my horizontally impacted wisdom tooth), I went to the dentist and got it checked.
I was handled by in intern. I don’t really mind that he is an intern. I myself am a medical student so I know you need somebody to be your first and to try your hands on doing something before becoming somebody great. I’m not his first patient anyway. He had been working for some 7 months now I guess.
He drilled and drilled and filled it with white paste. It lasted well for a week or so. But later on, the pain kicked in, not so painful at first but slowly gaining momentum. I couldn’t take it anymore so I went to him, who is busy, and handle me over to the pretty dentist that I blogged few days before.
She tried to start drilling. But I couldn’t take the pain, so she injected me with anaesthesia! And later on, managed to clear out the surface before I started signaling her that I’m pain again. Can’t really bear with it. Damn painful!
She sent me home as there is no long needle for better anaesthesia. I went home, waited 2 days until she is free again to do my tooth.
I went back today afternoon, did another time of anaesthesia, and the moment she drilled, it was painful again!
-_-”
I tried not to shout but it was too painful to even be patient with it.
She decided to do root canal treatment for me. First putting something in my tooth to make the nerve dies.
I came home, consulted 2 of my dentists friend. One like to scares me until I doubt what my dentist did. Another one is more positive and I gained some confidence. According to one of them, this whole treatment is going to take few visits and will be quite expensive if done in Malaysia. KL price for 1000 ringgit!
I think so far I’m lucky for paying nothing at all. Hehehe. Will update later about this 47th. Hopefully it is not going to be too painful and the killing of the root is going to be successful. I don’t want the dentist trying to drill it just to make me feel pain again!
