By the police that’s it.
It was driving from Taman Intan to my housing area along the main road of Kluang (distance not more than 300m) and DURING that 300m, I got stopped by 3 traffic polices.
One of them managed to ride right beside my window for almost like half a minute before pointing me to a stop. I was with my parents. That was when I notice I didn’t wear the seatbelt!
Kantoi x 100,000.
I winded down the window. He must have been some 20 years old young police man.
“Tunjuk lesen.”
“IC”
“Kamu tak pakai tali pinggang eh?”
I didn’t know what to say. Yea, I wasn’t train to talk in this kind of situation and I didn’t know what to say because I was guilty.
“Boleh lah bang. Dekat jer, 300m ni pun nak saman ker.” I was going to turn in at the very next junction, not more than 50m in front of me now.
“JPJ masa ajar bawak kerata tak cakap 300m ker 500m ker kan?”
I gave up on coaxing. I gave up in talking so that he can let me off.
He was stern with his decision, I was quite happy that these kind of police is around. I was guilty so I kept quiet.
He handed me the white slip and I drove off.
A google search about traffic summon will yield you similar results. First, you will read something like - summons for not wearing seat belt had increase from RM100 to RM300. WOW! I’m going to pay RM300 for that! Shit. And later on you will read something like - you can be called to court, find and jail could also be possible. It was written on some blog. Even thou a lot of readers protested that how can that be the punishment for not minding their own safety, it went unheard by the government.
Being somebody in government and having a mum who is also a government servant, you will get lots of advices. One being paying the summon early so that you can get a big discount.
So, my dad and I went to the police office today.
The first notice that we saw which was stick all over the place is - starting from 2009 (forgot which month), all 25% and 50% discounts for summons will be ineffective.
No more discount for me :(
I handed my summon in at the counter to pay my summon. As I thought, the summon wasn’t keyed in to the system yet.
I handed it over to the other girl in charge of checking summons. To my surprise, she told me that not wearing seat belt would be a RM80 fine.
Relief!
I got to save up to RM220.
Happily paid the sum, and got out this shit safely, with minimal damage.
Lesson of the day, wear your seat belt when you get on the car! And we are having some serious policemen around who don’t give a shit anymore, which in a way or two, good for our future! I will not complain about that sound of my dad’s Exora which reminds you to fasten your seat belt now.
