The outlaw torn

Posted by peanut on Tuesday Sep 9, 2008 Under blogin, cool stuffs, music
Well. The title of this post is actually the name of a song by Metallica. And yes I do listen to them, since long ago (even thou by saying it now I feel like I’m a bit outdated). Anyway, classics should be loved and remembered.

It is some of the words inside this particular song that I like..

Photobucket

HEAR ME
And if I close my mind in fear
Please pry it open

SEE ME
And if my face becomes sincere
Beware

HOLD ME
And when I start to come undone
Stitch me together

SEE ME
And when you see me strut
Remind me of what left this outlaw torn

Just sharing something that I like.. Would actually like to fill my blog here with some pictures but well, it is my 7th year here in the 10th most miserable place in the world (according to the recent survey which ranked Denmark as the country with the happiest people in the world) so I don’t really feel like taking any pictures outside.

Anyway, I’ll try my best to snap something these few days, my blog is getting too ‘wordy’ and hopefully more pictures are coming!

new(old) collection!

Posted by peanut on Sunday Sep 7, 2008 Under cool stuffs

Well, actually it is a bit late for me to show off my new deck but since I didn’t blog about it before, so would like to mengada and show off a bit.

Tada…

Photobucket

The black joker is still very ‘evil’ for me.

Photobucket

As you all know I had a black deck already, so this time I plan to get a blue one. Thanks to my buddy for this.

I personally think that the blue card is more slippery (but sometimes too slippery) than the black card to perform tricks. The different color of the face sometimes would reveal the trick accidentally so it is not a really good deck for performing. But still, it looks pretty soothing… Hehe..

My experience of jail breaking an IPod touch

Posted by peanut on Saturday Sep 6, 2008 Under cool stuffs, tech

After reading lots of complaints about people breaking their iPod during the process of jail break, I stupidly decide to jail break my iPod which I won from a blog competition few months ago. And this post is to record how it is done. While writing this down, I’m actually restoring my iPod for the second time because I finally have some idea what is going on and this time I would do it properly. (The jail break actually cleared all my contacts and information that I saved inside my iPod!)

At first, after browsing the applications that the installer provided during my first jail break, I noticed that most of the apps still run on firmware 1.1.4 and below. So it is best to downgrade or just maintain your firmware if it is already below 1.1.4.

The first thing to do would be getting ready a few programs that you would need along the way. The first one would be the Ziphone GUI latest version which you can get it for free by searching in Google. The second one would be Winscp which functions like a ftp program, which you can also download for free from the net.

After that, things are pretty straight forward. First you open up Ziphone GUI and click Jailbreak (which is the second option on the left) and it would flash your iPod with some white words (which is pretty scary because it looks like things are going crazy) and hopefully the process ends successfully and now you got your first own jail broken iPod!

Photobucket

And you can proceed to the new ‘installer’ icon which suppose to appear on your iPod now and start installing some of the hundreds applications that they offer there.

p/s : You need to do all the above steps with Wifi available. And this is just an amateur’s experience, not showing off!

India Day 18 - 20

Day 18 - Farewell party, group x-ray

Today night is our farewell party organized by the bachelors. Actually the doctors had also invited us for a group dinner but the bachelors kinda ‘kidnap’ us, so it ended with us joining the bachelors and the doctors and family having their own party without us. Too sad, I hope I can be split into 2 and attend both places. Anyway, these are some pictures that we took during our chapatti and curry chicken night.

Photobucket

The chicken farm.

From left, Dr. Emil, and the X-ray man - Arun and Vijay

Vijay jokingly said that we should take a group x-ray as well. Lol. The idea is very creative but I wonder how can that be executed. I thought he was really serious when he said that.

Photobucket

Our farewell party.

Day 19 - Good bye Asha Kiran!

Going off today. Maybe I would go back again? Maybe when I have more knowledge and is ready to help I guess. All these 19 days are indeed good experience. We were constantly reminded that there are really people out there who needs medical help. We see the results of the powerful combination of knowledge, dedication and compassion. Maybe after this, each time I eat a chicken, I would think of all the people who do not have the chance to enjoy the simple comfort that I enjoy everyday.

It is sad to leave this place when each part of the hospital had our foot prints and memories. People that we have come to know and love. People that we have come to respect and adore.

Life is about a lot of meetings. Meetings that need to end at one point of time. And maybe next time where will be a chance again, but of course, I vow to be more ‘knowledgaable’ next time.

We said our good byes to all the friends, and took the jeep to Bheja. And we are on our own now! Next destination will be Vishakapatnam, Agra, Jaipur, Chennai and home!

Day 20 - Train ride to Agra

We reach Vishakapatnam the day before and stayed in Heritage hotel (dorm room) which is just beside the train station. We catch the morning train to Agra. The journey is quite uneventful except knowing some new people and etc.

India Day 15 - 17

Posted by peanut on Monday Aug 18, 2008 Under as a med student, cool stuffs, medical stuffs, travel

Day 15 - Hiking 1

After the rounds and clinics, we went for a walk around the hospital, trying to climb some peaks. Since the last walk to the lake, we are pretty sure we can orientate quite well around. But the weather is not really good and it was raining.

Photobucket

Enjoying the view?

Day 16 - My first POP

Today I told Bhim about how we use to learn all the theories but never get a chance to do it ourselves in the university. Then his reply was so easy, ‘You will be doing the next POP.”

It wasn’t a long wait, there was a boy who came in and needs a POP. So, as promised, I got the chance!

Not hard at all. LOL. Anyway, this is the experience I want. It doesn’t matter whether it is going to be my work in the future or not.

Photobucket

This is Bhim Bahadur. Lol. Bahadur means brave because he was a watchman for the hospital and had seen bears and tigers during the early years. During those years, the hospital was not as well equipped as it is now and the nurses are scared to go to the ward at night to change the drips and etc. So everything was done by Bhim the watchman, and slowly the doctors decided to send him for proper education and today, he is the main assistant in surgery and the one who will do all the POP in this hospital.

Photobucket

Playing with light when the power is out.

Photobucket

This is how they travel to the hospital.

Day 17 - Hiking 2

Decided to try our luck and walk to some other peak. The view is breath-taking but too bad the majestic view can’t be express fully in small pictures.. You need to see it for yourself.

Photobucket

I’m enjoying the view, but too bad you only got to enjoy viewing me. LOL.

Photobucket
This is one of the highest peak around. You can shout out loud and all those mountains kilometres away will give you a really good echo!

India Day 10 - 14

Posted by peanut on Sunday Aug 17, 2008 Under as a med student, cool stuffs, medical stuffs, travel

Day 10 - The Walk to Lamtaput

Since today is a Sunday, we decided to walk to Lamtaput to get our Indian sim card again. It was a 2km walk to Lamtaput and a 2km walk back. The scenary is great! Have a look.

Photobucket

Love this picture. Very green indeed!

Photobucket

At the 1km Lamtaput mile stone.

Photobucket

Laughing at the small goat.

Day 11

Nothing special today, just normal ward rounds and clinic, we cycled to Lamtaput again to get the sim card as the shop was not open yesterday.

Day 12 - The Bear

The weather is getting cold as it starts to rain almost everyday. Yesterday night when Dr. Ravi was out for night round, he spotted a bear near the mess eating jack fruit. There is a bear talk in the hospital and night rounds become quite an adventure as we will have our torches and constantly looking out for big black creature that moves around.

Day 13 - The Bear II

We heard the bears fighting yesterday night, they sounded like big dogs, very big dogs. LOL. I’m lucky that I was in my house and only sit quietly listening to their growlings when the electricity went off. Oh, did I mentioned before that power shortage is very common here. There can be 5 to 6 power cuts a day. Even thou there are 3 dams built around this area to produce electricity but power cut is still very frequent. Bad governing I think.

Today we had a tea break in the evening in Dr. Vinod’s house as well. Discussing pulmonary hypertension over tea is really stressful but fun as well. I guess this is exactly how it would be when a specialist sit down and have tea with the junior doctors. LOL. This is my first time as well.

Oh, forgot to mention, today is chicken day. LOL.

We went for a walk with Dr. Emil as he has a half day off and there is no rain. We tried to walk to the lake but the lake is still not full yet. Even thou the streams are forming but most of the land is still dry. You can see us standing at the bottom of the lake-to-be. Orissa really has breath-taking sights! I just feel that I’m very close to nature. It is just us, the land, and the sky.

I’ll let the pictures do the talkings.

Photobucket

Waiting for Dr. Emil in front of his house and getting ready for a long walk.

Photobucket

Can you spot me? I’m that small spot at the lower left corner. Just to show you how big is the tree.

Photobucket

Fishermen trying their luck.

Photobucket

Dr. Emil and I at the lake-to-be.

Photobucket

I like wide space.

Photobucket

After this picture I successfully (accidentally) made some of the soil fell into the padi field due to my weight and the whole pool turned red. Nevertheless, I ran away before anybody notice.

Photobucket

Nature is the best!

Day 14 - The hunt

Morning and afternoon went off just like normal days but at night we went over to Vijay’s and Arun’s place. Both of them are our radiologists. “The X-ray guys”. Both bachelors. LOL. We went out crawling in the dark hoping that we could meet up with the bears. But luck is not on our side. Or I should say we were actually lucky to not see the bear?

There were pictures of victims of bear haul. With eye balls dangling and stories about a whole straight to the brain. Meeting a bear is certainly not a thing that I would experience but hell, if it is with the X-ray guys, then I think I’ll be safe.

Anyway, the mission is a failure.

Photobucket

This is how it looks like outside the wards at night.

Photobucket

Beginning on hunting in front of the x-ray guys room.

Coming up, my first POP by myself and Bhim! Days in Asha Kiran Hospital coming to an end.

India Day 3 - 7

Posted by peanut on Friday Aug 15, 2008 Under as a med student, cool stuffs, medical stuffs, travel

Day 3

Today is a Sunday. We woke up with some mild headache because of the Chloroquine we took yesterday. We don’t have Malaria, it is just for prophylaxis. Well, nothing much for today as we slept most of the time due to the headache. A baby was admitted today with fits and fever, and if you read my post about my first time doing a cardiac massage, well, this is the baby.

Day 4

Today consist of practically the same ward rounds and clinic hours. We observe and observe and observe. What’s special about today is that Mr. Jacob, one of the staff of Asha Kiran Society explains us what Asha Kiran is all about. Besides hospital, they helped the locals by educating them, doing agricultural work and linguistic work. Basically something like analyzing their language (which is very different for each tribe), try to record them down with words, and teach it back to their children.

Day 5

I had already blogged about today, if you are still interested in reading please click this link here.

Day 6

Today is Wednesday. It’s the chicken day! Well, in a week, only Wednesday and Saturday will be of non veg meals. Wednesday is the chicken day, and Saturday is the fish day, other than that, we will have vegetables and curry and eggs sometimes. Suddenly, chicken has a whole new meaning in my life. I never know that I will miss it when it is not there! LOL. Living for few days without meat is really weird.

Today is my turn for surgery. Observed and helped out with some of them. Learned a lot of course as Dr. Ravi likes to ask. Hahaha..

Day 7

Who said medicine is all about human? Today we went to examine a sick pregnant cow which is not eating since yesterday. After some examinations, they all agreed that there is a weird lump around the neck and to give the cow some nutrient, we need to infuse it.

But how to?

It end up with some big IM injections and BIG tablets (meaning forcing the cow’s mouth open, throw it in and pour in a lot of water.)

Photobucket

That’s Dr. Ravi bring the cow into ‘position’.

Photobucket
Say Awww, we want to see what is inside.

Photobucket

That’s what they say about cow, bila disuap tak mau makan. LOL

Photobucket

That’s me in the clinic. And the one next to me is Dr. Vinod, my idol -lah.

You guys might wanna read on the previous India Day 0 - 2 as I put in pictures and altered it abit already. More interesting stuffs to come!

meebo.com

Posted by peanut on Wednesday Jul 9, 2008 Under cool stuffs, tech

Haha, since I’m greatly grateful for the existence of this website, I would like to write a review about it.

As you all know, my internet is so superbly slow that I can’t even load 2 pages at one time, downloading the new MSN Live messenger is a definitely a big pain in the ass. And they stupidly put this rule that only the latest updated version is allowed to be connected. Well, and thanks to meebo.com that I can finally chat with my friends, without the need of downloading MSN.

Photobucket

The interface is simple and easy to use. It is basically just like any other instant messenger with only the advantage of a messenger without any installation. Even thou part of the background is occupied by some advertisement but I guess I was too happy that I kinda’ ignored it all the time. So, maybe next time when you are really desperate and don’t have any good stable connection around, try meebo.com!

talking about jinx

Posted by peanut on Monday Jul 7, 2008 Under bad stuffs, blogin, cool stuffs, magic

Well, today is definitely not my day. Well, not to say all, maybe only for this morning. As I blogged about it yesterday, today is suppose to be my first day of practical in Kluang hospital. My mum woke me up at 6.30am (wow!) and I reach there around 7.30am. I noticed that I took the wrong documents which were needed, so I drove all the way home to get them, and on my way back to the hospital, I noticed some liquid splashed out from under the bonnet. And after a few more meters more dirty liquids came out and I decided to stop at the road side. I know something bad happened (even idiots would know).

Photobucket

The cover of the radiator is gone!! I seriously don’t know how can that happen. Seriously frustrated big time!

Maybe I didn’t lock it well enough yesterday when I added water. Damn! Not to mention that I almost step on dog’s shit when I get down from the car. Okay, it was ALMOST. And I accidentally knocked my own head while entering the car because of wanting to avoid the shit, (and another time when I was trying to get into the car after fixing the cap).

Knowing that I can’t get back to the hospital with my whole bonnet stained with dirty water (and the most important, the engine will break down or explode because of the heat, haha), I drove home, and proceed to think of a good get-away plan. It was almost 8.30am by then. Well, I ended up calling my friend Tze Wei to come and pick me up and go a spare part in town. He was doing his practical in the hospital so I gotta wait until 10 plus. Haha, don’t know why I’m so sure that he would do that for me, that is what I call friends -lah! If somebody is in deep shit, the one that helps is ‘THE ONE’. Anyway, I gotta meet his gf as well. LOL.

Actually I did try to walked out to the shops to look for any garage but I bumped into Eesen’s father and he told me that the nearest spare part shop is in town.

I got the cover, for merely RM15.

And it was 11pm and I can’t go back to the hospital. LOL. So my ‘first day’ is postponed to tomorrow.

Oh! And forgot to mention that when we are about to set off to get that cap, the postman delivered my bicycle magic card from UK! (What is today? Good luck messed up with bad luck?) Hahaha.. Here are some of the pictures:

Photobucket

See? Proofs that eBay and Paypal actually works!

Photobucket

It is really cool, the deck is air-cushioned and I can fan it out nicely without any problem. Play with ease. Haha.. A piece of new ‘toy’.

Photobucket

The joker, as cool as it looks on the site. Envy?

And then I took the 1pm bus to JB. Reached there around 2.40pm, took a taxi to Pan Global Plaza, hand in my Indian visa application form and straight away proceed home, got back here around 5pm and blogging this down. This must be the fastest one day trip to JB I had ever had.

Photobucket

It was raining in Johor Bahru.

Photobucket

The trip wasn’t too boring as I have my new iPod to play with and I brought along my new cards as well.

The trip is okay, but it costs like:

Bus to and fro = RM7.50 x 2 = RM 15
Taxi to and fro = RM 10 x 2 = RM 20
Visa application = RM 160

I’m a poor guy now. Okay, wish me luck for tomorrow’s first day. Ciao!

why mosquitoes choose you?

Posted by peanut on Wednesday Jul 2, 2008 Under cool stuffs

I subscribe to WebMD’s newsletter (I know I know, I don’t seem to be those type of nerd). The fact is it is something that I’m happy that I subscribed to it. They have a big variety of articles and sometimes I would just sit and browse around and see what interest me that day.

And thus this article.

Photobucket

It says that mosquito chooses people. After much research, they found out that 85% of it is due to genetic accounts. Other reasons would be – high concentrations of steroids or cholesterol on the skin surface, carbon dioxide and lactic acid while sweating.

So, it basically means, if you are exercising, you would attracts more mosquitoes than while you are relaxing at the same place. But if you genetically attract mosquitoes, I doubt that it would make any differences. For me, I think you should identify some of your friends who are specially ‘favored’ by those mosquitoes and have him/her sit near you. And you would be safe! Better than the best repellant ever!

Photobucket

That stupid mosquito! It took so long to heal!
