Indian food 2

Posted by peanut on Tuesday Aug 26, 2008 Under food log, travel

Continuation of previous post…

Photobucket

Typical Asha Kiran’s dinner. Curry Dahl with vegetables.

Photobucket

Typical Asha Kiran’s dinner. Sometimes I don’t know what they give. They serve only chicken on Wednesday and fish on Saturday. So usually I have lotsa rice instead.

Photobucket

Breakfast in Vishakapatnam’s train station.

Photobucket

Typical vegetable thali. You can find this very easily in the north part of India. The price is around 70 rupees and you get around 4 chapatti, rice, dahl, and few kinds of curry. Not bad for the price I would say.

Photobucket

Potato cutlet served in roof top restaurant of our hostel in Jaipur. The chefs are from Dar JeeLing.

Photobucket

Also in Chennai central station. Very neat and sweet stuffs. But I tried some that Dr. Emil brought back to Asha Kiran and they taste really nice.

Photobucket

Idli and curry for breakfast. This is taken in Vishakapatnam train station.

Photobucket

Parota in Vishakapatnam. Cheap and filling. Unlimited cold water and potato curry as well.

durian’s science

Posted by peanut on Sunday Jul 13, 2008 Under blogin, food log

Thanks to Uncle Chai who brought us some durians just now that I gotta enjoy some before my trip to India. Well, free food is the best food!

Photobucket

This fruit is weird in all ways:
  1. they fell down from the tree when they feel like.
  2. the fall is very deadly for those who is under the tree.
  3. some of them are hard to open.
  4. they smell.
  5. they have their own signs in hotels and airports
Photobucket

Me in action trying to peel it. Opening a durian has its own science. LOL.

Photobucket

You can’t see much fleshy durian here, they are inside our mouths.

Photobucket

Well, here comes the part that I’m going to reveal 2 secrets about durian. Myth or truth? I don’t know, you tell me!
  1. It is said that you would be ‘heaty’ if you drink the salt water from the durian shell (dilute some salt in them and drink it using the shell as a cup’). - first of all, I’m not sure why salt water is effective here, and other than that, I’m not sure about the differences of drinking salt water from the shell or from a cup.
  2. If you hands smell/stink after the durian feast, try washing your hands with water which flows from the shell, the odour miraculously disappear! (this one I tried and it works!). Maybe I should wash my face, my hands, my mouth and put some in my mouth to clear the smell too.

I debated with my mum about this 2 points. Well. Can’t prove that it doesn’t work. Haha..

kluang rail coffee

Posted by peanut on Saturday Jul 12, 2008 Under food log

Went to the original Kluang Rail Coffee shop for breakfast with Thowei and Xinyi just now. I got to say that I don’t have a good palate and it is not like it is real good quality or what but there are few reasons that it is one of my favorite place for breakfast:

  1. I live in Kluang, and Kluang is famous for this.
  2. It has history.
  3. The things taste okay.
  4. One of the shops that you can see malay chinese indian sitting at one table commenting about present-day politics or scandal.
  5. The environment. Situated just beside the rail road, it is the rail road coffee shop. LOL.
  6. Or it is just because I’m a Kluang boy.

Well, the shop is slowly commercializing. I think it has its own t-shirt merchandise, coffee and cups (maybe?). There are this old shop and another air conditioned one down at the town and there are a few more scattered in KL, JB and etc, bringing Kluang’s name to other Malaysians.

Anyway, lotsa food pics recently, just to piss off some friends who is abroad now, and entice those who is in Malaysia but too busy to stop and enjoy. LOL.

Photobucket

There are already some nasi lemak, fried mee, fried bee hun, curry puff and boiled eggs on the table when you arrive.

Photobucket

Milo ice. Can’t really take any teh tarik or coffee or cham beng (mix of coffee and milo?) as I’ll get insomnia easily.

Photobucket

Nasi lemak. Small portion, nice to eat. Haha.

Photobucket

The kaya butter round bun toasted on charcoal.

Photobucket

Fried mee, ok ok only.

I don’t think their selling point is because of the taste of their food. I think it is famous because they sell everyday-food. They serve basic Malaysian breakfast food like how they served it 10 years or 20 years back. And so I came up with this theory - they are famous because of NOT CHANGING. Well, even thou the new shops offer slightly more varieties of food but sometimes simple and not getting much choices is actually good. And that explains the Kluang Railroad Coffee Shop - simple, historical and basic.

You can’t deny it. People like the olden days feelings..

more daily life

Posted by peanut on Friday Jul 11, 2008 Under blogin, food log

Photobucket

It had been raining everyday for these few days. I do enjoy the rain a lot. Especially when I’m driving. I’ll have this unique feel that the world out side is pouring like crazy but I have my own cozy place with the radio. And part of it is because it wouldn’t be hot!

Photobucket

And another reason would be I could see this. Haha. Managed to capture this on my way home from JB. Yup, I’m done with my visa and even managed to meet up with h2m. But didn’t took a picture with her. Maybe next time.

Photobucket

This was taken on my way to Niyor yesterday when I visited Peitong. I’m always glad when there are no buildings and traffic around for a short while. Just me, the road and the sky. That’s the Rider’s spirit!

Photobucket

This is a bubur kacang hijau with sagu and durian. I’m not sure whether this is a Johor delicacy or not but my housemates never heard of it. I bought this near my house one day for RM 1.50.

Information for my buddies and hot chicks friends:

I’m going to India on the 17th July 2008 (next Thursday) and will be back on the 14th of August 2008. If you pray, please pray for my safety and make sure you include that inside your prayer so that I come back in one piece. LOL. Hopefully I can blog there a little bit also. Ciao!

my long journey home II

Posted by peanut on Sunday Jul 6, 2008 Under blogin, food log, travel

Continue from previous post…

Landed in KLIA at around 12pm. Took KLIA express to the KL sentral and reached there around 2pm. Well, I did this alone so it is kinda weird, so many memories just pop up in the brain that sometimes you will think that you were away for too long.

I kept my big luggage in the luggage room. Guess what, it is only RM5 per day! Damn cheap. I just need to get rid of my big bag so that I can walk around. Met up with Erma (she was late) and had lunch and when to lepak in KLCC. Wasn’t really sleepy and it was nice to walk around for a while (adapting).

Photobucket

I know that we Malaysians enjoy a lot of food but I was seriously surprise when I saw all those menus. Maybe I was away for too long and forget how a proper food court looks like. LOL.

Photobucket

Saw this bunch of kids in KLCC. Lawatan sambil belajar in KLCC?

Photobucket

Just wanted to take this picture.

Photobucket

Some game in front of Petrol Science. Was jumping around for a bit.

Photobucket

KL.. KL.. Damn stressful to travel around when there are heat and people around.

Later in the evening I accompanied her to her class and later on went to find Pistachio. Damn long way. Haha. Well, had my dinner there, Pizza Hut delivery, she was sick.

Photobucket

So many people. Stress stress stress. Waiting to enter LRT.

Photobucket

Scenery outside Pistachio’s house. Don’t have her picture here as she forbids me to take it. Too many secrets to hide I think.

Met up with Erma around night. She can’t even direct me correctly to her place. LOL. Met up with her friend Jo, damn funny guy. We accompanied her for her dinner and guess who I met! Aiseh, I forget his name, is the botak guy in the Malaysian Unite MTV that I posted here before (Erma if you read this please leave the name at the comments). Hehe.

Photobucket

At night, deserted LRT station. It was only 9pm!
Photobucket

Tried to take his picture but my handphone camera sucks. See the guy sitting behind her? Too bad didn’t take picture with Jo .. Ish ish.

Later on after lepak in her house 3 of us decided to do something crazy that day. Err.. not really crazy actually as we can’t come up with good ideas. End up meeting Erma’s friend in Sentrum (don’t know how to spell this), don’t really like that place so I’ll skip it. Haha.

Later on Jo lead us for some pondan, she-male hunting in Jalan TAR and Jalan Hj. Taib until 5am. LOL, that’s basically my happening first day in Msia –lah!

Not bad actually, great company, another kind of way to relax. Wish that I could stay longer! Oh s**t! Forgot to take picture of the white thingy we ate that night/morning. What is it called again? I think I need Erma to edit this post. LOL.

Photobucket

The nasi pattaya that I had before taking a bus back to Kluang. Will continue blogging everyday’s activity.

Going to start practicals in Kluang hospital tomorrow. Grrr… Need to wake up early. Ciao!

my long journey home

Posted by peanut on Saturday Jul 5, 2008 Under blogin, food log, movie reviews, travel

Well, it wasn’t a very good condition for me to blog actually. First of all, when I reached home, something is wrong with the connection for some time already. I need to change the modem (buy a new PCI modem), buy the Jaring reload card and try to wait for the top up page to load, which is bloody LONG! My internet speed now goes like 3kbps only. Sigh~ Now my speed can only enable me to load ONE page at a time and I can’t even update the old MSN messenger to the new one. SIGH…

Anyway, would like to blog about the ‘feast’ that my housemates and I had using out left over food.

Photobucket

Here you go, we had some fish cooked in tomato sauce, potatoes with chicken, long beans with eggs and some mix vege. Everything is fresh or semi-fresh. LOL.

Claire and I left in the morning at 9am to the airport. Our luggages are limited to 20kg per person. It is really troublesome!

Photobucket

On the way to the airport

Photobucket

All the luggages

Photobucket

The gang of juniors

Reached Moscow with a lot of bags! Meet Madhu there and happily took her number so that I can call her up when I’m in Chennai during August. Hehe..

I had some 3 hours wait until the next flight from Moscow to Bangkok, it is quite fast actually, we just sit around, played some cards and talk some craps and it is time to say bye bye to some of the friends, who are taking Emirates and SIA.

Photobucket

Claire and Naj trying to imitate some blogger’s favorite pose.

Photobucket

Bloody long queue! Spotted some hot chicks too! Hehe..

Photobucket

My in-flight itinerary.

Photobucket

Thailand new airport.

Photobucket

Reached Thailand, can almost smell home. Haha. I watched Gandhi on the plane. LOL! It is so touching! Haha, there are few parts that even I felt like crying. Highly recommended! Maybe I watched it more attentively because I’m interested with the history. Well, I’m going there soon and it is always good to know more about the man behind this country.

Couldn’t really sleep on the plane. By the time I landed, it is already more than 24 hours without sleep.

To be continue..
