An APPLE a Day

Posted by peanut on Friday Sep 4, 2009 Under iPhone/iTouch

Keeps my life happy.

It all started last year. 2008. When out of the blue, I won something from the internet. First time in my life I actually won something this expensive. An Apple iPod Touch 16gb which by that time, cost almost RM1200++.

It was my first contact with Apple’s machines. It came in a small compact solid gray box, and in it, the very shiny iTouch calling out for me.

The first time sliding the program ‘open’.

The first time enjoying such sensitive touch screen. It is practically zero pressure. It senses your finger just like that.

The first time enjoying the powerful beat thru the Apple earphones.

It is all because of this darn iTouch….. All because of this cursed poisonous machine….

6 months down the road, I bought iPhone.

LOL!

NOT because iTouch is not good enough. It is because I would wanted that iTouch to have the ability to call, to really be outside showing itself, and to really have that music coming out from its body. And that time, the iPhone 3G could do it.

Software wise, everything is about the same. Of course iPhone has more clearance for more apps. Practically all apps are built for iPhone instead of iTouch (For example the facebook).

It is something that, you like it when you first saw it, and then you spent the whole day setting it up to ur need, all the medical programs, all the essential programs to view files. And then u spend time using it, AND… this is the best part, YOU FORGET ABOUT IT.

Yeap, you get it right. I forgot that I’m actually holding an iPhone. Because it serves me well, it never gives me problem, and I took it for granted. And once an iPhone is set, it performs like the very first day. Everyday, like first day.

And 6 months after that… because of that darn iTouch and iPhone…..

I bought a Mac.

=)

Within a week after that day… I’m going to say this…

I wonder I’ll ever wanna use Windows again….

LOL.

Why?

Because it had been fun using a Mac. It is cute, cool and sometimes just awesome. Weird right? I also don’t know. Maybe the Apple store got put jampi in it. I know somebody might find it hard to use, not user friendly. But I’m enjoying it. It is something different. But it is easy to use, fully personalized and it listens to me.

And now…

That iTouch is in somebody’s hand. And I wonder whether she would get herself jampi-ed or not. Hahahaha!

p/s: Gosh my blog is becoming wordy.. Need some pictures!

Top 5 medical apps on iPhone/iTouch

Posted by peanut on Tuesday Mar 31, 2009 Under iPhone/iTouch, medical stuffs

First of all I would like to begin by saying that this is my personal top 5 most used applications on my iPhone/iTouch. I think these 2 Apple products are really made for those in the medical line.

Problems - I think that iTouch is better in term of using it like a PDA compared to the iPhone. I had this problem of using losing my signals frequently after installing some ‘bad’ applications that temper with the network. Since iTouch can not be used to call, it doesn’t affect its performance at all.

I’ll start with the list now

1. Lexi Complete

Photobucket

This is like the King of all medical apps on iPhone/iTouch. It includes - Lexi drugs, Pediatric Lexi-drugs, Nursing Lexi-drugs, Pharmacogenomics, Natural Products, Infectious Diseases, Lab & Diagnostic Procedures, Harrison’s Practice, 5-Minute Pediatric Consult, Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, AHFS Essentials, Poisoning & Toxicology and NBCA Exposures. Jaw-dropping right?

The Harrison’s Practise by itself could already give you all the information that you want about anything you could think of. I found Lexi-drugs to be quite handy but the Stedman’s Medical Dictionary will definitely come into handy all the time. Lab & Diagnostic Procedures is very specific and detail in all the lab test and even give you info on how to do it and what are the main principles.

2. 5-Minutes Clinical Consult

I found this very useful as well. If I couldn’t find the thing that you are looking for in the Lexi-complete, this is definitely the 2nd place that I’ll look for. It provides longer and more detail information. (Please bear in mind that ALL of the information given is really quite complete and long. A lot of readings!)

3. MedCards

It is a compilation of useful diagrams and scheme or procedures that you would like to have on your palm when you are doing stuffs.

Photobucket

All these normal lab values.

4. MedCalculator

Not using this yet but I think it is going to be handy in the future!

5. Flashcards

Photobucket

Really useful when you are bored and waiting to go to sleep on the bed. Playing with the flash cards could be quite useful as you could remember some of the info better and maybe find a few new things as well!

-Extra-

Discover

Photobucket

I put this in as one of the ‘medical apps’ because when this is used together with ‘DiskAid’, you could put all those word files that you have into this device and read it any place you one. A good plus point about Discover is that if the word files are too long and you stopped somewhere in the middle, you could always bookmark that point and start from there the next time you want to read it instead of scrolling down and look for the place that you stopped.

Chinese input for iphone

Posted by peanut on Sunday Mar 29, 2009 Under iPhone/iTouch

When I was having my iTouch, I always wanted to write Chinese on it and found a lot of solutions but in the end, I never thought that everything is just built-in in the iPhone.

Steps:

  1. Get an iPhone/iTouch
  2. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards > Chinese (Simplified/Tradisional)

I uses the pinyin. But If you are somebody who like to write, then you can choose Handwritting as well.

So goes for any other keypad that you wanted, including Russians.

And, feel happy about using dictionaries and translator on your iPhone/iTouch now. Another plausible plus point to the tons of medical applications that you are already having now *wink wink*.

This is the screen shot.

Have fun!
